Troubleshooting using Admin Preview Mode
When you have complex configurations with multiple locations, custom display settings, or various styling customizations, it can be challenging to understand why a specific stock label is being displayed in a certain way. To help with this, we provide an Admin Preview Mode feature that lets you see detailed information about how labels are determined.
How to Enable Admin Preview Mode
You can start an Admin Preview Session from your Shopify admin panel. In the app settings page, locate the "preview" section and click "Start an Admin Preview Session":
What Does Admin Preview Mode Show?
When Admin Preview Mode is active, your stock status labels will be displayed inside a box with an "EXPLAIN" button next to them:
Clicking the "EXPLAIN" button opens a detailed popup that shows all the logical steps the app took to determine what label to display:
Benefits of Admin Preview Mode
- Instant Updates: See your configuration changes immediately without cache delays
- Debugging Tool: Understand exactly how the app determines which label to show
- Temporary Access: Only visible to you, not your customers

Common Use Cases
Admin Preview Mode is particularly useful when:
- Troubleshooting why a specific location's stock status is or isn't showing
- Verifying that your custom label configurations are working as expected
- Understanding the interaction between different settings like "hide out of stock locations" and "continue selling when out of stock"
- Testing new configuration changes without waiting for cache to clear
By default, the app caches:
- General application settings (display location, custom labels, etc.) for 5 minutes
- Individual product inventory labels for 30 seconds
With Admin Preview Mode, you can bypass these cache times and see your changes instantly when you refresh your storefront pages.
